Les enregistrements pour la maison de disques Aladdin datent de la période 1945-1947. Lester Young vient d'être libéré de ses obligations militaires, période désastreuse au cours de laquelle il fut condamné pour usage de drogue et incarcéré (le titre "DB blues" en est une évocation, signifiant "Detention Barracks blues"). Pour ces sessions en petites formations, Lester Young est entouré de très bon musiciens (parmi lesquels Howard Mc Ghee, Nat King Cole, Red Callender, Irving Ashby, Roy Haynes et les jeunes Chico Hamilton et Dodo Marmorosa). On y retrouve la sonorité si suave et particulière du Prez au rendez-vous. Un album pour les inconditionnels.
